SCHOLARSHIP FUND


SALEF’s Fulfilling Our Dreams Scholarship Fund is making higher education a reality for Central American and Latino students, including AB 540 students, with approximately 400 scholarships provided since 1998. SALEF’s Fulfilling Our Dreams Scholarship Fund offers financial assistance and support to undergraduate, graduate and professional students, often making the difference in whether a student can attend college or not.
SALEF offers the following scholarships:
Health Career Scholarship
awards provided to Central American students pursuing health related degrees and careers.  Scholarship monies generously provided by The California Wellness Foundation. Two Nineteen Scholarship is specifically for AB 540 students attending a Community College in California. These scholarships are renewable on minimum GPA and community service Four-Year Scholarship provides financial assistance to selected scholars for four consecutive years, as long as they keep a 3.0 GPA.  Four-year scholars are selected from the current years’ awardees. No additional application required.Father Rutilio Grande Scholarship is specifically tailor for student in the fields of Theology, Philosophy, Religious studies and/or an emphasis in Cultural Studies, Environmental Studies or Social Justice.
Application Process:
  • Application period is February through June.
  • Postmark deadline is June 30th
  • Finalists are invited for interviews in September
  • Recipients are asked to attend SALEF Annual Banquet in October

Eligibility Criteria Applicants must:

  • Be of Central American or other Latino ethnicity,
  • Demonstrate financial need,
  • Demonstrate a history of community service
  • Possess a minimum 2.5 GPA,
  • Demonstrate history of community involvement,
  • Be a graduating high school senior, undergraduate, graduate or professional student

  • Reside and study in California,

  • Pledge to help other students through mentoring, tutoring and other community service opportunities offered through SALEF.

Scholarship is open to all qualifying students regardless of immigration status.  SALEF promotes giving back to our communities, thus scholarship recipients are expected to complete community service hours and receipt of the scholarship award is dependent on completion of their pledge.
